Newly ordained Mayor, Adrian Jones, joined The Wirral Egg Run Committee and some of the bikers that take part in the run each year for a photo at the aptly nicknamed; “Eggy Ferry” (Egremont Ferry, Tobin Street, Wallasey) to celebrate the achievement, thank you to the management and staff.

Spokesperson, Matt Rose said “We promised the Police and Council that this was at the top of our agenda when we met with them last September. It shows that we have moved forward from a bunch of bikers organising a ride for like minded people to a major event/attraction that the Wirral can be proud of and now involves the whole community.

The Charity status means businesses will take us more seriously when we approach them for sponsorship, we can claim 28p back from the Government for every pound donated if people select Gift Aid on our forms, and we will be able to help a wider range of sick children on the Wirral” Mayor, Adrian Jones has chosen two charities that he will be raising money for this year – St. John’s Hospice and Claire House, who can now apply for grants from The Wirral Egg Run Committee from the proceeds of next year’s run as their objective is to help sick children on the Wirral, whether it be helping Charities such as Claire House or individual families that may need some rest bite etc.

Matt Rose added “This is a major step forward in the run’s 28 year history, started with about 20 members of Empress Motorcycle Club taking eggs to sick children in Heswall Children’s Hospital in 1981, without whom the run would not be in existence today.

We are determined to continually learn and improve on previous years to make the event as safe and enjoyable as possible, working closely with all the authorities. We are now one of the major events in the biking community calendar, as well as one of the top events for the Wirral, attracting people from all over the country and Europe.”

We are happy to have put the previous concerns behind us, now we can move forwards with scope for improvement.

Our progress and dedication was acknowledged on being awarded “Pride of Wirral Award” in May 2008.

We have currently penciled in 7th December for the Toy Run not so many bikes, but just as colourful.

And then the 2009 Wirral Egg Run will be on March 29th 2009 @ 11:00 am as listed in this year’s program.
